Denmark, the first Nordic country that joined the EU on 1st January 1973, has some 31 institutions of higher education. Although Denmark introduced tuition fees for non-EU students, EU and exchange students still enjoy free tuition. At the same time, Danish institutions have also developed scholarships/funds and other types of financial assistance for those students who have to pay tuition.
The aim is to attract the best students from all over the world to study in Denmark. In fact, over 22000 international students decided to study in Denmark in 2009.
