Denmark, the first Nordic country that joined the EU on 1st January 1973, has some 31 institutions of higher education. Although Denmark introduced tuition fees for non-EU students, EU and exchange students still enjoy free tuition. At the same time, Danish institutions have also developed scholarships/funds and other types of financial assistance for those students who have to pay tuition.
