Belgium, one of the founding members of the European Union, also hosts world renowned higher education institutions. No matter you plan to study in Belgium a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree, or enroll in a summer study abroad program, the Belgian educational system is designed to provide students with a wide range of subjects and study opportunities. While the usual languages of instruction are French and/or Dutch, you will also find many degrees offered in English, German or any other foreign language that target international students

There are three speaking communities: Dutch, French and German. Therefore, admission requirements in Belgium will vary depending on which community your institution is located.

Higher education study programs in Belgium are categorized per cycles following the European Higher Education Area guidelines, i.e., first cycle programs = bachelor's degrees; second cycle programs = master's degrees; and third cycle programs = PhD degrees.

Tuition fees in Belgium vary depending on the community the institution is located at: Flemish community: 0.70 to 9.30 EUR per ECTS for EU students and 0.70 to up to about 25 EUR per ECTS for non-EU students; French community: from 374 to 836.96 EUR per year for EU students, and 890 to up to 4175 EUR per year for non-EU students; German community: an average of 425 EUR per year.

One school year in Belgium equals 60 ECTS.

First cycle programs are worth 180 - 240 ECTS; second cycle programs are worth 60 - 120 ECTS; while third cycle programs don't have a specific ECTS range.

In Belgium, student's performance is assessed according to a grade point scale that ranges from a minimum passing grade of 10 to a maximum of 20 points.
